Going Keto: Why It’s Beneficial to Your Health

Ketogenic diets have exploded in popularity in the last several years, and for good reason. It's a terrific approach to not only lose those unwanted pounds rapidly but also to get and remain healthy.

For those who have tried and are continuing on the Keto Diet, it is more than simply a diet. It's a way of life, a whole other way of living. But, like with any big change in our life, it will not be simple; it will need a tremendous amount of dedication and effort.


Is it good for some people but not for others?
Although a Ketogenic Diet has been shown to significantly enhance people's quality of life, others do not agree with the majority. But why is this the case? We've been told for as long as we can remember that the only way to lose weight is to stop eating the fat-filled foods we've become accustomed to eating every day.

So, when you tell them to consume healthy fats (the important word here is healthy), you can see why some people are doubtful about how and why you would eat more fat to lose weight quickly. This thought contradicts all we have ever known.

Who discovered the Keto Diet?
Endocrinologist Rollin Woodyatt discovered in 1921 that three water-soluble chemicals, acetone, B-hydroxybutyrate, and acetoacetate (known together as Ketone bodies) were created by the liver as a consequence of hunger or if the individual followed a diet heavy in fat and extremely low carbohydrates.

Later that year, a Mayo Clinic doctor named Russel Wilder coined the term "Ketogenic Diet," and utilized it to treat epilepsy in young children with tremendous success. However, due to medical advances, it was phased out.

Obstacles when starting Keto
I began Keto on January 19th, 2019. I had previously attempted the Keto Diet approximately 3 months earlier but was unable to make it through the first week. The first week on Keto is the most difficult since it is when the dreaded Keto Flu, also known as the carb flu, emerges.

The Keto Flu is a normal response that occurs when your body switches from burning glucose (sugar) to burning fat for energy. Many people who have tried the Keto Diet remark that it feels like they are detoxing from a drug. This can last anywhere from 3 days to a week, although in my case, it just lasted a few days.


Symptoms Of the Keto Flu
People who have experienced the keto Flu report feeling sleepy, achy, queasy, disoriented, and suffering from awful headaches, among other symptoms. The first week is often when many who attempt a Keto Diet fail and stop; however, keep in mind that this occurs to everyone early in the process, and if you can get beyond the first week, the toughest part is gone.

There are a few solutions that might help you get through this difficult phase. Taking electrolyte supplements, staying hydrated, drinking bone broth, eating more meat, and getting enough sleep are all recommended. Keto Flu is a common occurrence that happens when the body expels the regular daily diet. You just have to keep going.

What Does a Ketogenic Diet Look Like?
When the normal individual has a carbohydrate-rich meal, their body turns the carbohydrates into glucose for fuel. When carbs are present in the body, glucose is the body's major source of fuel; however, on a Keto Diet, there are very few, if any, carbs ingested, forcing the body to use alternative kinds of energy to maintain the body working correctly. This is where good fats come into play; in the absence of carbohydrates, the liver transforms fatty acids in the body into ketone bodies.

An excellent Keto diet should include:
• 70-80 percent fat
• 20-25 percent protein
• 5-10 percent carbohydrates

To follow a conventional Ketogenic Diet, you should consume no more than 20g of carbohydrates each day. I personally ate less than 10g each day for a more severe experience, yet I met and beyond my initial goals. I shed 23 pounds in a little over three weeks.

What Exactly Is Ketosis?
When the body is sustained by fat, it enters a condition known as "Ketosis", which is a normal state for the body. After removing all of the carbohydrates and harmful fats from the body over the first few weeks, the body is now free to run on good fats. Ketosis offers several potential benefits, including quick weight loss, improved health, and improved performance.

Excessive ketosis can be exceedingly harmful in certain conditions, such as type 1 diabetes, but it can also be incredibly useful for patients with type 2 diabetes when combined with intermittent fasting. What You Can and Can't Eat
Sticking to a low-carb diet can be difficult for someone new to Keto, and while fat is the foundation of this diet, you should avoid consuming some types of fat. Healthy fats are vital; yet, what exactly is healthy fat? Grass-fed meats (lamb, cattle, goat, venison), wild-caught fish and shellfish, and pastured swine and poultry are all good sources of healthy fats.

It is also possible to consume eggs and salt-free butter. Keep starchy vegetables, fruits, and grains to a minimum. Processed foods are not permitted in any way on the Ketogenic diet, and artificial sweeteners and milk can also be problematic.

It's a lifestyle, a completely different way of life.
Many people who try the Keto Diet fail and quit in the first week; however, bear in mind that this happens to everyone at some point along the process, and if you can get past the first week, the hardest part is over.

When the body expels the typical daily diet, Keto Flu occurs.
When carbs are present in the body, glucose is the primary source of energy; however, on a Keto Diet, very few, if any, carbs are consumed, causing the body to rely on other sources of energy to keep the body working correctly.
